Cleaning Station Setup

Have hinted around about this for a little bit, but now is finally starting to come together. The cleaning station.  One thing that was unexpected is the drain valve. Specifically which side of the tank it is located on. In all the literature, the valve is on the right side. But as you can kind of see, the value on …

eXperior 1911 Dominates 10-8 Test

The Wilson Combat eXperior 1911 has passed the 10-8 Function Test.  What makes this more impressive, is the gun is a single stack, chambered in 9mm, with a GI style, internal extractor.  Between you, me and the wall; I thought no way this gun gets through the test without at least some kind of bobble. But gosh-darn it did!  And …

Firing the 1891 Rolling Block Pistol

It’s unusual to be able to actually shoot some antique firearms, but being that this is a rolling block pistol in 22 RF; and had a super solid frame and receiver, I decided to play around. Using CCI CB 22 short, sub-sonic, low velocity ammo. Although I’m sure more regular off the shelf 22 ammo would be fine, I didn’t …

B-29 Bomber Flyover

So…a B-29 flew over the John1911 armory Sunday. I asked Doc if I should be worried since I was shooting a German rifle? He said B-29’s only targeted Jap guns, so I should be safe.      —Marky

eXperior 1911 AIWB Diagnostics

Playing with a single stack 1911. Wanted to see how it goes drawing, shooting and reloading in my EDC format.  The eXperior seems very nice. Runs good so far. And presents well. Can’t say anything definitive yet, but it’s making a good first impression.  As for the AIWB? I always need to ensure I clear my cover garment. It’s always …

Remington Rolling Block Pistol.

This is a Model 1891 Target Pistol. Although they were made in several calibers, these particular examples are chambered in .22 RF. It has a 10.5 inch, octagon barrel.  The production run on the .22 target model was very low at around 100. And these are pretty rare today. They were not a very popular pistol in the days of …

Wilson eXperior First Shots

So…after the astounding success of the Wilson EDC X9L pistol, I was curious if a single-stack version of the gun was available? It was not. Seems Wilson limits the EDC9 guns to 4” which I have ZERO interest in. But they did offer an alternative. The eXperior 9mm 1911.  So what is this gun? It’s a single stack 1911 with …

Walther P38

Per viewer request, we have pulled the Walther P38 out of The Armory and put some rounds through it.  This is a post WWII example, with 6 mags, and a holster. We paid very little for it since it’s not something the typical P38 collector considers desirable.  If you are interested in shooting firearms from WWII, consider purchasing something that …

9-11 Memorial NYC

Early in 2018, I had a chance to swing by the 9-11 memorial in New York. If you ever find yourself in the area, I suggest you check it out.  Even if you lived through 9-11, you will learn quite a bit. For me, it was interesting to see the damage to the building and how it failed.  Not being …

Sonic Cleaning Tank

This has been a long time coming. But what finally pushed us over the edge was suppressed AR’s. They get filthy, fast. So we wanted a sonic cleaner that at minimum would take an entire AR upper.  Being able to put in barrels from Blaser rifles is just a bonus.      Sincerely,  Marky www.John1911.com “Shooting Guns & Having Fun”

POTD – PPS-43C

I have been eyeing these PPS “pistols” since they started coming back into the country. AFAIK, there are two caliber variants: 9×19 and 7.62×25. So imagine my excitement as I walked into Shooter’s Supply Shop (Loveland, OH); and I see this PPS-43C sitting on the counter. It had had just come in and they didn’t even have a price on …
