First Deer of 2017

Looks like opening day 2017 for Kentucky was successful. My son in law went out and filled both his tags the first morning. He was using a Marlin 1894 Lever action chambered in 44 Magnum. The doe was pretty small but will be great eating and the buck should be pretty tasty as well.

You would think that as successful as his SIL is each year, that the deer would figure out that they need to be spending each November somewhere other than Kentucky! I really do miss hunting, even on those days that you did not even see a deer, you still saw just so much of everything else that you get to see in the woods. And you really can not put a price on the high quality lean meat that hunting provides. Along with the satisfaction of harvesting it yourself, knowing that you are providing sustenance for your family… it really does touch something deep and ancient in our human nature.

    • In reality, Freeze shoots deer for the meat. If Bullwinkle walks buy, he might take him. But the bigger the buck, the less tasty the meat.
