eXperior 1911 AIWB Diagnostics

Playing with a single stack 1911. Wanted to see how it goes drawing, shooting and reloading in my EDC format.  The eXperior seems very nice. Runs good so far. And presents well. Can’t say anything definitive yet, but it’s making a good first impression.  As for the AIWB? I always need to ensure I clear my cover garment. It’s always …

Empty Chamber Slide Drop – How It Happens

1911: Empty Chamber Slide Drop – How It Happens I have noticed a sudden uptick of interest in a video we made a few years ago regarding dropping a slide on an empty 1911 pistol chamber.  That video discusses what the acton does to a 1911 and at what threshold it becomes an issue. <CLICK HERE FOR THAT VIDEO> This …

EDC X9L – Why The Big One?

So…some have asked why choose a 5” model of 1911 as a go-to 1911? It’s mostly personal preference, but if you must:  I like how 5” models recoil.  Using a plug, they can be cycled one handed on hard surfaces.  The EDC X9L has a rail that still facilitates that move. I dislike extra-long dust-covers on 1911s in general.  This …

Not A Cool-Guy Bipod

Marky spends stupid money on Bipods. And as most of our regular readers know, I am a cheap bastard. For my uses, the cheap stuff works just fine.      Freeze www.John1911.com “Shooting Guns & Having Fun”

JM Custom Kydex EDC X9L

Tell you what. This JM Custom Kydex AIWB holster is spot on for fit for the EDC X9L. I HATE changing guns and holsters.  The gun is done. Now it’s time to give this holster a try. My only regret was getting soft loops. I prefer a hard loop and will look on their website to see if I can …

Does Brass Hit The SRO?

A viewer was looking at some images we posted of the SRO a top the EDC X9L. The SRO attached shows some wear on one of the front bezel’s. He asked is that was from brass hitting the optic?  My initial reaction was no. I had never perceived any brass bouncing off the glass or SRO housing under use. I …

POTD – Weapon Rack Test

We have installed a small corner of the weapon rack system for the new armory. It’s slow going. Missing parts. This section was supposed to hand 50 rifles.  We can rack 12. Needless to say this is disappointing and inconvenient. Having long guns strewn all over the place makes it hard to work in here.  But we’ll get there eventually.  …

PSA- Stake Those Link Pins

It’s been a long time since I have seen one of these malfunctions. Probably because I haven’t seen a 1911 without a staked link pin in maybe 15 years.  So what am I talking about?  On a 1911 there is a barrel. A barrel link. And a pin that holds the two together. The slide-stop goes through the link when …

Carry Guns & Gloves

Another thing I like about the Wilson X9L is the increase in trigger-guard size. Any CCW gun that is carried daily ideally should be shootable with gloves on.  The reasons should be obvious so I won’t waste your time explaining why.  What you see here is my large-ish hands wearing chainsaw gloves. Which are my go-to gloves when doing range …
