Is it bad to drop the slide on a empty 1911 chamber? No. Is it great for the 1911? No. Especially for a pistol with a crazy light competition trigger.
I compare it to slamming the door on a Ferrari. Is it good for the car? No. But the door better not break from an occasional slamming shut either.
On a 1911, it’s better to break your gun in training than during the stress of a live-fire incident.
