Chris from Big Sky Shooting, LLC (Big Sky Shooting, LLC) out of Kalispell, Montana has been working on some projects that have really piqued my interest. In this case it’s cutaway guns.

So what is a cutaway and why do they exist? Cutaways are usually created by manufactures as classroom demonstrators and gunsmith training aids. And while most retail customers have never seen one, every manufacturer of a proprietary firearm has cutaways available in their non-public facing catalogs.

Being a 1911 guy, I always enjoy seeing the mechanics of how a 1911 works. So when Chris started offering these, I jumped at the chance. In my opinion, this cutaway is more extensive than others by virtue of what he has included in his window selections. Mainspring housing. Grip safety. Firing pin and stop. Even the plunger spring!

Most cutaways focus on the areas where gunsmiths need to be educated and trained. On 1911s, that typically sear, hammer hooks, grip safety, trigger and disconnect. Chris’ example is cut to the point of pure entertainment. And. I. Like. That!

So enjoy the video and thank you to Chris from Big Sky Shooting, LLC for the opportunity to pick one up. Yes, we paid for it.

Sincerely,

Marky
