It’s been a while since we discussed this, but I still carry the SIG 551a1 in the truck. And yes, I still use a tennis bag. Why?
Rifle: I am still playing with the 551 and like the folding stock. Am I saying the SIG is better than an AR? Nope. Not at all. Actually the weight penalty of the SIG hurts it pretty badly.
But as stated earlier, this is a truck gun. It’s not being humped across the Altai mountain range trying to reach Putin’s bunker. I’m a civilian. Living in middle America. It spends 99% of it’s life riding in a vehicle.
That get’s me on to my second point…
Tennis Bag: As I have gotten older, ideas that I suspected as being valid when younger have started to harden into policies (I suppose like my arteries). One of those being I do not wear military style gear. Ever. Especially military style camouflage.
My policy is if it sticks out like a sore thumb at any lunch counter, post office, public roadway or office complex; that’s not camouflage, that’s a costume. Same goes for truck gun bags. In my life, I prefer to have truck gun bags that don’t look military or even hint towards “tactical”.
If I can’t walk past the front desk of any hotel in America with the bag? It’s useless to me. And no, hoping the people you run across don’t know 5.11’s from 911’s isn’t a plan. Hope is not a plan. Hope gets you side-eye, or worse.
It’s cowboy rules, people. Don’t scare the horses.
Sincerely,
Marky
