FN Hi-Power Inert Trainer
John1911 staff are having a debate around here about a pistol. So if you have something to add, please speak up in the comments.
What we have here is a regular Hi-Power pistol that has been de-milled into a red training gun. Extractor is gone. Firing pin is gone. Barrel has the chamber welded. The trigger doesn’t work, but that’s probably the magazine disconnect. Probably. But who knows?

So here is the question: Someone says this was done by the Belgian Army for their recruit depots. Possibly with 1500 of these being imported into the United States many years ago.
Me? I buy the gun, not the story. So when I look at it, I wonder if a PD or some training organization did this on their own? Maybe for recruits? Maybe as a classroom demonstrator? Maybe as a prosector’s prop? Who knows?

The TLDR: is this a legit Belgian MILSURP? Or an individual training tool done by some armorer on his own? What we do know is it’s NOT a factory built demonstrator / “red gun”. If it were, there would be a French “demonstration” roll marked on the side. As it sits, there is no doubt this gun started as a live pistol.
Either way, we are not planning on reactivating it. I’ll probably put it in a display case and hang it on the wall in one of the John1911 common areas.
But we would like to know what exactly it is. What say you? Belgian Army or Cop Trainer?
Sincerely,
Marky
