Gaston Glock passed away today at the age of 94. I think it’s safe to say the 3 most successful pistol makers of all time are: Samual Colt, John Moses Browning and Gaston Glock.
Since the invention of the Glock 17 pistol is “current events” to most folks reading this, it is easy to not appreciate the historical significance of Gaston’s work on the grand scale of history.
So let me put this into some perspective: There are basically 3 types of semi-automatic pistol designs in the world today: The Walther P38, The Colt 1911, and The Glock 17. Just about every other handgun made today is either heavily influenced by one of these 3 designs or practically a straight up copy.
No two ways about it: Gaston Glock is an historical figure who changed the world. Let’s just hope his company’s legacy lives on and the future ownership of Glock Gmbh doesn’t turn into some kind of probate freak show.
Sincerely,
Marky
