Jim Clark 50th Anniversary 1911
One of the prerogatives of being the editor of this website is I am allowed to insert some personal stories and tastes into the content. I try not to do that too much, but sometimes it’s inevitable. So here we are. Please indulge me.
Back in the early 2000’s, I was full steam ahead into 1911s. I had started with a Kimber Stainless Gold Match and shot it until she literally broke down.
Then I moved on to the Kimber CDP series of guns. All of which were dehorned and have alloy frames. The logic was high volume training and daily carry, a dehorned gun would serve me well.
Uh huh.
The Kimber CDP’s tore me up something awful and I figured out high volume shooting 230g ball in alloy frames was going to either break the guns, or break my hands. After a few years on that struggle bus, I ended up settling on an Ed Brown Executive Elite, and the rest as they say, is history.
But…at the time. If I had the coin, and could have even found one for sale, The Jim Clark 50th Anniversary 1911 was the answer to all my gun prayers. 5 inch government length and massively dehorned…by hand.
Can you just imagine? Me carrying this pistol every day and night, shooting it at gun schools, getting dropped in fights, and pistol whipping people who pulled weapons on me. The mind wonders.
Even now, looking back on it, I think Ed Brown was probably a better fit for my lifestyle. Ed made his own parts, got his finished guns out the door quickly, and always put me to the front of the line when inevitably, my gun came in for service. I doubt Clark’s shop could have handled that (or frankly me) in such a timely manner.
Logistics is important. Getting support is important. Dealing with gunsmiths who have a 5 year waitlist isn’t viable for real working guns. Not for my working guns anyway.
But still…back in the early 2000’s, I used to lust after this gun in the rags. And now here one sits on the used market.
Sincerely,
Marky
