Or it is as snubbie as an L frame can be. I recently acquired a Smith and Wesson 686-3 from a good friend. This particular gun was manufactured circa 1988. This in my opinion is the best era for Smith revolvers and this one proves that point. It sports a set of Ahrends grips from Clarion Iowa. Ahrends turns out top quality grips and this set makes taming recoil a pleasure. While being a snub nose, it does have a few requirements for concealed carry. Probably the most important is a stout belt. This gun is heavy at 40 plus ounces. While heavy to carry, the weight makes it quite manageable even with stout 357 magnum loads. Double action is very smooth and single action is of target grade quality. This gun was Smith’s answer to the Colt Python and I think they did a great job with it.
