I 100% predicted this on the podcast. Once the SIG P320 started popping off in school resource officer holsters, at school events or on school property, this gun was doomed. Why? Because schools, school boards, teacher confabs, PTA’s and parents of school age children all communicate with each other. And once they “discovered” their local PD were carrying guns of questionable safety, the questions being asked of command staffs, police chiefs, city councils and city attorneys creates a time-stamp of liability.
What did you know, and when did you know it? How long before said accident with your officer did x,y,z person or 1,2,3 PTA member ask you about “dangerous guns”? Did you know X or Y city recalled or banned their officers from carry them? If so, why did you allow your officers to continue to carry the 320? Did you even inquire within your department about this issue?
The result is liability lawsuit after liability lawsuit. The SIG P320 is finished in civilian hands as a working gun. And SIGUSA is going to have to re-roll this model with a significant design change calling the new gun the SIG P325 or the SIG P420.
And if you think this last statement is crazy? Or impossible? FN did just this within the past 8 or so years. The FNS pistols had such serious negatives, they made changes and re-rolled it as the FN 509 you know today.
Sincerely,
Marky
