The Argument For Short Mags
Well…at least one. This was a habit I picked up from SWATsnipers some years ago. Even when they are not operating as snipers. Most of them always have at least 1 short mag handy.
Why?
Maybe you’ll need it to hole up in some awkward position where the issued Chiquita-Bananas won’t fit. Maybe you’ll end up providing hasty-sniper cover (aka coyote hunting) and a shorty works better prone. Or, more likely, it’ll come in handy should you want to re-zero / check the zero after falling on your ass day 3 of a 5 day field exercise.
We all understand ounces equal pounds. And this argument doesn’t advocate sacrificing a 30 rounder for a 10 round mag. And yes, everyone can push a 30 round mag into the ground with no functional loss with more stability.
All they are saying is…maybe…keep an empty / loaded 5-10 rounder in your pack. Or in the back of the truck. Or stuck in your sleeping bag. But always close at hand.
If for no other reason than to wring out every possible accuracy variable in that tiny-burp-gun should the need arise.
Sincerely,
Marky
