Over the years I have noticed certain patterns in the gun community. Some might even call them tells. Here is a common one that has yet to be disproven.
And it’s a BIG one. Gun guys who have a very strong dislike, bordering on an almost irrational hate toward Glocks, universally can’t shoot well.
Let that sink in for a minute.
Now before the internet comes at me with pitchforks and torches, hear me out. Becoming an accomplished shooter takes effort: training, ammo, dry fire, time and most importantly self awareness. As things progress, you start to realize it’s not the arrow, but the indian.
Buying a gun and calling yourself a, “Gun Guy” is the easy part. Really not all that different than buying a jersey for your favorite sports team. And like the jersey wearing, bleacher bound, aficionados; you don’t mistake them for the actual athletes, right? Kinda the same thing with guns.
As one moves down the path of a shooting career; thinking back on the people you ran across who could really shoot. In most cases you won’t even remember what particular gun they shot. Instead you will never forget how well they shot.
Folks who wave jerseys do so because for them, that is the important part. Membership in a club. Part of a clique. An outward mechanism to signal fraternity in one particular social group or another.
But the tell is this: the one trait that is never measured to join these clubs: skill.
Be mindful of the jersey waving, folks. Some of us don’t see it the way you want us to.
Sincerely,
Marky
