This gun has been on the back burner for a minute with all the construction around here. Wilson calls this gun Wilson eXperior Full Size but that name kinda gets lost in the weeds with some of the X-Frame eXperior models. So here is the best way to describe this gun, IMO:

“Full Size, Single Stack, eXperior 1911”. This example is chambered in 9mm, has a frame rail, threaded barrel and is cut for a red dot with their True-Zero system. 

Interesting point: At about the time I ordered this gun, the internet meme-Lords were saying Wilson didn’t like to offer 1911s with all these options. Which was never true. 

So why did we order it? 

  1. Wilson announced the end of the single stack, eXperior guns. At least in 9mm. Which caused a small panic at John1911. 
  2. In my opinion, the single stack, 9mm eXperior 1911s are by far the best “traditional” 1911s ever made in that caliber. As for why, there are material differences inside that are optimized for high volume shooting (read training classes) in 9mm 1911s.  
  3. So…if you are a someone who wants a traditional, single stack 1911, but lives in a 9mm world, and want to keep up with the modern, striker guns all day? This is it. Period. Nobody else makes a single stack like this. And in my opinion, none of Wilson’s other single stack 9mm will keep up with the eXperior. Which is why…they…made…it. 
  4. Since we already have a regular 5” eXperior gun, I wanted this last one to be “gun school ready”. Red dot ready. Back up irons. Can hang a weapon light on it for nighttime shooting / classes. And I can hang one of these modern, shorty, 3D printed cans on it for night time work at the John1911 range. 
  5. But I suspect they didn’t sell well, so Wilson shut the line down. The customer is always right. Right? 
  6. In short: no. If you are a “traditional” 1911 single stack guy, and you DIDN’T buy one of these eXperiors? You fucked up. Period.
