So back in 2019 is the last time I laid eyes on a factory cutaway Glock. It was at the Cody Firearms Museum, behind glass, and the building’s lights were failing. Yes really. As such, the images are quite dark. CLICK HERE to see them.

Fast forward to earlier this week: I ran into a Glock Model 17, factory cutaway, in a private collection. But here’s the best part: They let me hold it and take better pics!

Left side. Notice the magazine is cutaway inside.

As a general rule, cutaways are not commercially popular. They tend to cost more then the functioning firearm they represent, still have to be handled and transferred like a firearm, but can’t (generally) be converted to working status. The average gun guy doesn’t want to pay $2000 for a Glock 17 that doesn’t even shoot!

Even shows how plungers and pins work inside the slide. Very interesting to me.

But….they are invaluable when teaching gunsmiths or armorers how stuff interacts inside a gun. So…should you ever get a chance to pick one up cheap, don’t sleep on it.
