Single Stack eXperior is Back!

Wilson Combat has brought back the single stack eXperior 1911s. This is especially important in the 5”, 9mm, 1911 segment. We think so much of the eXperior that I bought two of them a few years ago.

For those who don’t know, the 9mm, single stack eXperior is built like a traditional 1911, but Wilson has made modifications to the rails and lugs to enable them to run dirtier, longer. To reiterate from previous comments, they have done this without doing anything radically proprietary to the gun. Meaning these eXperiors are 100% compatible with all current 1911 parts.

[Here is an old video discussing why we own two of these guns]

Why some would care.

The 5” 1911 in 9mm has always been a finicky animal for two reasons. The original pistol was designed around a 45ACP round, which gives the system more recoil to operate with. A 5” 1911 in 9mm still has to unlock and cycle all that mass, weight and friction but do it with less available energy. This becomes a problem as the system either gets very dirty or very dry.

If you look around at the modern 9mm 1911 market, most companies solve for this by shortening the slide, sometimes locking off the hood, and putting in a bull barrel.

That works. But if you want to run a 5” in 9mm like your 45’s, what you will find is over long shooting sessions the 9mm variants will need to, “come into the pits” more frequently for lube and cleaning. That starts to become a problem when you are trying to keep up with a bunch of Glock shooters in a match or class.

I have always run 5” 1911s. For 19 years I ran one in 45. When I switched primarily over to 9mm, finding a single stack that could run reliably over 3 hard days of shooting was a problem. Until Wilson released the Single Stack eXperior (What they call Full Size). If you missed these the first time, I suggest you pick one up now.

And no, Wilson Combat has no idea I am writing this post nor do they care.

Sincerely,

Marky
