“Shooting Guns & Having Fun”

  • Brennen Munro

On the fore-end of the shotgun, you can have someone steam the piece with a pipe in place of the barrel. I could even handle something like that, so you could find someone who works with boats and steam working, and have that stock sorted out fairly quick! I also had to laugh about your G.Will comment, you were much nicer than I was…

    Good show guys!

    • I’ve never done something like that. Would I strap it to a pipe and let the steam and strap slowly move it?

What you will want to do is build a jig that will hold the stock in the position that you want it to be when it has dried. The pipe was just to work as a stand in for the barrel, but you could even wrap the barrel in plastic wrap and use it. You just do not want to steam the metal bits unless you are prepared to deal with the after effects! You put the fore-end into a steam box, this will make it plyable, when you have reached a point of being plyable enough to bend back into the shape it should be, it goes into the jig with support from inside, (barrel or pipe), and form fitting from the outside to give you the result desired. The most time consuming part is the construction of a proper jig. The steam box you can just hammer together from surplus boards and such. Don’t let anyone convince you that it is something that you will have to pay thousands for. If you want, I can e-mail my phone number and explain myself better!

        • “Steam box”. See..that is a new term for me as well.

I might have to consult you on this. Maybe we’ll do it in house and write a story?
